So, You Are a Busy Mum......

The day you become a mum, you do not just become a mum. You become a busy mum.

Busy Mums are well represented in the media, particularly in advertising. Watch a commercial break, and more often than not, you will see a busy mum. She is either preparing a meal, or more likely, opening the boot of her wagon to retrieve some shopping bags. There are kids around and always, a dog jumping out of the car. A golden retriever.

So we are busy. No shit. Weekends are no longer for watching Video Hits with a crippling hangover. You hear a kid and BANG! You are on. People to feed, housework to do, things to remember, birthday presents to buy, kids to drive places and a million other things that make you.... A busy mum.

But I am here to let you in on a little secret. A notion so simple, that will ease your busy-ness instantly. Come closer.......

Closer............. closer.......... (nice perfume... what is that?)

lower your standards
You heard me!

By lowering your standards, you will free up your time so you are less busy. It is so simple.

Ok, so here is the problem as I see it.

So many ads and mags and blogs promote the idea of perfectionism. It is Domestic Porn if you like, and although pretty and inspiring and colour co-ordinated and stuff, it is simply unsustainable, unless you want to end up on medication, like I did here years back.

I had lunch with the delightful Sarah last week. She writes a blog called A Beach Cottage, which is one of those beautiful, domestic porn sites. I asked her if she lives in the house, that is so beautifully styled and photographed, like that every day.

She rolled her eyes. I could have hugged her.

The thing is, people only let you see what they want you to see. And by comparing your real life to someone else's show reel, you could really start to question just how useless you really are.

And this is why you are so busy. Trying to "right the wrongs".

I am no longer a busy mum.

I invite you to lower your standards. Become less busy and make more time in your life, for the most important person in your life.

So, who will join the lowered standards revolution?
Who is no longer going to compare their life to others?
What can you put off doing today?
